Home again, home again, with my laptop....

What a great time I've had, and what great people and Duckies I've met, but what fun to be back home again !!
And guess who were waiting for me at home ??? My brother and sisters and....little Chihuahua Dreaming !! We talked the whole night about my World Tour.
I am so happy I took my laptop so I could have some cyberspace adventures in between my own adventures.
I discovered new internet sites as well as real sites (like the streets in Ghana or the surf on Hawaii)
Fantastic internet sites were Flickr Toys (fun to play with); LibraryThing
(I should go and organise my own books on line now); Technorati (checking out other Duckieblogs was interesting)and Youtube(specially now my favourite little doggie has a youtube!)
Would I use these sites again?? I am sure now I am familiar with these new possibilities, I would use some of them again, but the biggest pain of it all was: PASSWORDS; USERNAMES....
But, I will visit my friends at the Library as soon as I am over my jetlag and tell them and the patrons all about these exciting places (in the world and in cyberspace)

Audiobooks on the Antarctic

Nearly home !!
This World Tour just flew !!
After saying goodbye to all my friends at Schiphol Airport, I took a plane to the Antarctic. I have some good pinguin friends there and I promised them a visit. Although they live in large groups, they do get a bit lonely and feel a bit isolated so now and then. I promised them to download a number of audiobooks for their MP3 players. You should have seen how happy they were. I went to the World E-book fair and found some interesting books on the Antarctic, but also my favourite Fairy Tale "The ugly Duckling". Now, every time the little pinguins go to bed (between Daddy's feet) they are allowed to listen to one Fairy Tale !!
And me? I am on my way home !!

Lame Duck Podcast

Still in Holland and eating lots of licorice and cheese...
I have just listened to my favourite podcast: it's a pub quiz from my cousin Lame Duck. Well, his real name is Rupert, but after he opened a pub and and consumed too much of his own beverages locals started to call him 'Lame Duck'. The name stuck...
Every week he has a pub quiz in a small country town in Great Britain. I love doing the quiz and it is in my bloglines account of course.
I have no time visiting him this trip, so I just talked to him on Skype, also a great invention from this century.

Klompendans on Youtube

Clogdancing was fantastic. I made a little filmclip for Youtube as you can see. I tried my best to fit in a pair of clogs, but was not succesful. So I urged them to go ahead and do their dancing without me. I enjoyed being a spectator for once, instead of being on stage !!
By the way, the Dutch have a wicked sense of humor, just look at this youtube clip: it's an ad about learning English....Have fun...

Web 2.0 Awards & Travel

Busy, busy, busy...Have to attend a clog dance tonight and am organizing the next leg of my world tour. Lucky I found the travel site Kayak. It helps me heaps with booking flights, so convenient !! It is one of the winners of the Web 2.0 Awards.
Surfing that site, I noticed my fav retail site Etsy is one of the winners as well. I ordered a beautiful handmade notebook from Austria recently through Etsy, it is my travel log !!
Well, have to go and do some Dutch Cheese tasting now...

ZoHo-Ho and a bottle of...Heineken !!

I have finally arrived in Holland, (after a short holiday in Vanuatu, wonderful, but no photos of that holiday as I went incognito...)
Just had a look at Zoho and Google Docs. If somebody is going to ask me ONE MORE TIME "what is your log in/password?,I am going to QUACK!!
Picasa, picture sharing, spreadsheets and calendars....It sounds all great, but I think I am going to put an ad in the paper for a new manager, wouldn't that be much easier. A manager knows my name, and would not ask everyday what my password is...
But of course, if you can't afford a manager (=if you are not as successful as me) you have to rely on ZoHo. (Also, Zoho is no threat to Microsoft word....
Just had some cool beer amongst the tulips, Cheers !!

My Article in the Ghana Weekly !!

I have given the Ghana Weekly an exclusive interview. Usually I don't bother too much with interviews. All they usually want to know is how my love life is...but the Ghana Weekly has been very kind to me with giving me lots of positive publicity.
I have been taking and giving workshops at the School of Performing Arts in Legon. It is all quite exciting, I taught them some Aussie songs like " Quack go the shears, boys, quack, quack, quack" and they showed me some real Ghanese songs like "Nnwonkoro" accompanied with dance and drums. It looked so good, they must be born with rhythm in their blood. No matter how I flapped my wings, I was always flapped out of beat with the dancers. Wonder how I will be Clog dancing next week in Holland !!

Drums, Bells, Songs & Wiki

After the conversation with the librarian about Libraries 2.0, I decided to get out my laptop and do some searching myself. I surfed to a couple of Wlkis and also searched the wikipedia on Ghana. I found some interesting info. I had fun changing the text to all the different languages. The Library Wikis were very interesting. What an amazing amount of work to set up a Wiki like that!!
After all this sitting in front of the screen I needed some fresh (hot) air. and I met a group of singers. They were just sitting in a group drumming and playing the bells. It sounded great. You can hear them on this link ! They promised to teach me some songs, and I can tap my big webbed feet to the rhythm: I don't need a drum...!!!

Arrived in Africa & Web2.0, Library2.0

Africa: What a fascinating continent. I have just arrived in Ghana. It is hot and dusty and I am looking forward to having a shower, but the water only trickles out of the taps in the guesthouse where I am staying. Just visited some local animals, and took some photos.
On the plane I was sitting next to....a Librarian !! Had a very interesting conversation with her about the future of Libraries.
Looking how technology is developing and the daily use of computers (internet) Ipods (podcasting) MP3 players, digital cameras and the like: society is rapidly changing. Almost everybody 30 years and under is competent in using all of the above. Study at University means downloading lectures, there is even a university where they have started podcasting lectures; often High school students don't hand in work any more: they email it to their teacher. Reference books are less and less used. I can see in the future that most of the reference books will be deleted from the library and the amount of computers will be tripled. The site: "ask a librarian" will be popular as more and more people (students) will be using it.
This is not a bad development as it is only natural, the fact is that the older generation (30 plus) will have to get used to it. By the way, fiction will always be popular in bookform, so there will still be books in the library of the future.
The Librarian I was talking to knew a lot about Library 2.0, so I am totally up to date again with these new ideas. But, time to go for a swim: a hippo has just invited me to have a splash in the water with him. Hope it is not too muddy, as I don't want to get my feathers dirty.

Other Duckie Blogs on Technorati

Still surfing on the net..should go to bed really, had a long day on the beach and tomorrow an early flight to Africa, but...I am feeling a bit lonely at the moment and can't sleep...So, I went to Technorati and did a blog surf on Duckies, and guess what? I just had some happy chats with other duckies !!
Fun you should have a go one time !!! Good Night.

Thousands of rubber ducks to land on British shores after 15 year journey | the Daily Mail
Well, how about that I just found this article while playing del.icio.us !!
They have even be in Hawaii !!

Surfing Singing Duckie

Well, I am just having a ball !! I am still in Hawaii, can't get enough of it: weather is perfect; surf is great!!
How do you like me surfing ?? Cool isn't it ?
In my spare time I have been surfing on my laptop. I think I would like to adopt a dog when I come back to Australia. I think something like a border Collie would be convenient as he/she could round up my brothers and sisters when necessary. A dog would also be good company for me. A labrador could go swimming with me. Or maybe a little Chihuahua to cuddle up with...Lots of possibilities.
I can now just do a quick search with Rollyo !!
Next stop: Africa. See you there !!

LibraryThing | Catalog your books online

LibraryThing | Catalog your books online
Of course, after all this racket, and an angry ex-personal assistant, I couldn't sleep, so I logged on to LibraryThing and discussed some books with my friends online.

What an Adventure !!!

Well, I now have to tell you a story what happened to me and my clever personal assistant....I told you how clever he was, and what a good system he had, and...how we shared a room....Well, what happened; late tonight we thought it might be fun to go skinny dipping in the hotel pool. That is: he went skinny dipping, I can't because of my feathers...Anyway, it was great fun and we had a ball! Then it was time to go back to our room, and you know what ?? My personal assistant only had a little towel, yes, you guessed it: he forgot our room key!! What a consternation!! He thought he could open the door by just shoving and pushing, and so he woke up everybody on the floor. The man next to us thought it was so funny he took this photo. I thought it was funny too, and had a good laugh, but my personal assistant...he was furious !! I sacked him on the spot, with his little towel around his waist and ordered a new room for myself. You have to have a sense of humour if you want to go travelling with me (and I know his handy system now, how to remember all my passwords!!)

Me, my personal assistant and technology

Hi, I have safely arrived in Hawaii, the weather is balmy and I have been looking at the waves already. Hopefully a good surf tomorrow !!
I have also been allocated a personal assistant. I do need that now with all my extra work online. I have to remember an awfull lot of usernames and passwords. That is for a little singing duckie just too much. And my, he is handsome !!! We just have to share a room to save money (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)He is very clever too and has a handy system where to store usernames and passwords.
Can you remember when you first needed a password? Was it for a bankcard, or some other account? What did we use before we needed all those passwords, just a photo ID?? At first people often used their date of birth, postcode or numbers from their phone nr. Now you are discouraged to do that. I sometimes think everybody needs a personal barcode on their body: you scan it to get money; to top up yout Etag; to top up your mobile phone etc. That would be handy !! Although for me it is a bit of a problem with all my feathers....
I post here some photos of my hotel room and my first visit to the Hawaii beach !!
I also have some real Hawaii music for you to listen to! Success

New Promotion Material created with fd's Flickr Toys

Well, finally my ID card for the tour has arrived. It has my photo on it of course, very charming !! It is a bit difficult to wear as it is a bit too big for a little duckie like me. There was also a poster designed for a promotion in the Niddrie Library. They wanted to use the photo with me in it !! I am sure lots of people will visit the lovely Niddrie Library now.
You can view the Flickr fun on my Flickr site

Bloglines !!

OH, I am such a clever little duckie: I created my own bloglines account. I added the website Etsy I love shopping there: they've got cool stuff for duckies and great presents for all my friends.
As you can see: I have been to Uluru. Magnificent place. I sang around the campfire at the local Camping ground. Such a fantastic atmosphere ! The didgeridoo sounded so haunting in the dark with the crackling campfire...I have a small Youtube movie that you can watch. This is just before it got dark, the tourists were given wine and snacks and the didgeridoo-player was "warming up".
My next stop will be Hawaii. I hope I can fit in some surfing !!!

Just a note before I fly out.

Hi to all my fans !!! The concert with Justine Clarke went so well. We did a couple of duets, so awesome...!!!
I think tonight you can see her on Spicks & Specks !! She is fantastic. I had to decline joining the Spicks & Specks team because of my busy schedule. Shame though, because I love the show. This is one of my favourite songs that I would have sung at the end of the show (if I was there) Maybe you can sing along, the words are there !!
So long my lovely quackers.
PS and don't forget to sing in the shower smile-a-while !!

Yeahh, I'm in Sydney !!!

I arrived in Sydney without any problems. The weather today is lovely: sunny and 24 C, but of course being a duck it is not wet enough..."ducks like rain, ducks like rain, ducks like splishing, splashing in the rain...etc" I'm sure you know the song. My performance with Justine Clarke from Playschool is tomorrow (25 Sept). The show is called 'I like to sing', which is very appropriate, because I DO like to sing...
The Opera House is very impressive.
Yesterday I had the day off, and I did something very exciting: I climbed the
Sydney Harbour Bridge!!! First I found it soooo scary, but then I thought:"well, if I fall, I have wings, so I can fly...!!!And I can swim like a duck in the water, because I am a duck!!!It was very expensive:on Saturday and Sunday it is $199 for an adult; and $129 for a child. They were a bit puzzled what to charge me, so I got it for only $50, because I was a novelty, they thought. To be honest, I found that a bit of an insult.
Next stop: Ayers Rock !!

Off I go !!!

Well I am finally on my way !!
My friends came to the airport to say 'goodbye', which was very kind of them. You can see I have lots of luggage. I have to take extra bags of pellets, because most hotels only have 'human-food'. My first stop will be Sydney where I will be performing in the Opera House.

More about that later.
I was actually hoping to add music to my blog, as you know I have the most beautiful voice, but I don't know how to do that. My other duck-friends don't even know how a computer works, so no use asking them...!!!
If you know, please write to me. Sorry, we have to board now!

Preparations

Well, the last post looked a bit messy, sorry...I tried to use my left wing feathers on the keyboard
for a change...won't do that again...I think my right wing feathers have more strenght.
I am busy preparing for my tour. I had a little going-away party with my two sisters. They will miss me they always rely on me for getting the best breadcrumbs. Now they will have to fend for themselves for a couple of weeks. They actually want me to bring back a little Peking Duckling from China !! I'll see what I can do. But I have to go now, my agent is on the phone...

the PLAN !!

the PLAN !!

Hi there, I have been invited to travel the world as the most famous Singing Ducky !! Oh yes, I am so proud. I will tell you all about my travels: I will be walking around Ayers Rock; sing in the Sydney Opera House; surf in Hawaii and much more. My week in Italy had to be cancelled because of the passing away of Pavarotti. He originally invited me to sing a duet with him...I am going to a joddling workshop in Switzerland and have been promised custom-made clogs in Holland (that will be a task with my webbed feet. Anyway you'll here from me soon !!

Just introducing myself

Hi here I am !! On the photo of myself you can see me in the middle of an aria. If I just flutter up with my wings, I can get to the higher notes.
On this other photo you can see me with my Library friends from the Niddrie bunch. We just finished acting and singing the Paperbag princess Opera. Of course I was the star of the event. Next time I tell you about my plans for the World Tour, can't wait.....
